Fungal Nail

Causes of Fungal Nail

Fungal nail is a common nail condition that can be caused by several factors. The most common cause is the fungi that causes athlete’s foot, that thrives in warm, moist environments. Fungal nail can also be caused by yeast. The thickened nail can become discoloured, brittle, and crumbly.

Treatment for fungal nails includes topical medications applied directly to the affected area; oral treatment for more severe cases; or surgery to remove part of the infected nail bed and underlying tissue in some cases.
